I had a female friend of mine recommend a book to me, a few years ago, called "The Bestseller" by Eva Fischer-Dixon. It is about a German woman working as a nurse for the US Army. She meets an Army captain, decides to have a one-night stand with him, but events and feelings transpire. The two are married and she follows her husband during his career in the military. This was the main reason it was recommended to me as it dealt with Army life and I was a current member of the Army Reserves at the time. I thought it would be a chick book but it turns out to be a little more sinister.
The former nurse decides to write a book that becomes a bestseller. While writing another book, he realizes that several unsolved rape-murders always occur in their current base area, no matter where her husband is transferred. She never realized it until after a few moves. However, when she begins to question her husband about these events, strange things begin to happen to her. She feels like someone is watching her, stalking her, leaving her notes and clues, etc. She begins to believe her husband may be the culprit but she needs to find proof before she becomes the latest victim.
One segment in the book really caught my attention and should fit with our enthusiasm:
