Jasmine's "Please Let Me Go" enhanced

Post by davidnorth »

I decided to enhance this video because it is, in many ways, the most intense and most unusual of Jasmine's videos. For one thing, it does not slot comfortably into the rope bondage category because no rope was used. Instead, we have electrical flex, straps, and zipties. Even the cloth stuffed into her mouth is held in place with rope rather than cloth or tape.

When I approached Jasmine about doing this video, which took up most of the shoot that day, I warned her it would be quite intense. She was up for it, not least perhaps because she was unemployed at the time and needed the money. However, she threw herself into the part, as she always does, and endured about an hour of balancing on stools and hanging from the beam by her wrists. It's only a few minutes on screen, but it took a lot of work to get it. The chair tie was also very uncomfortable and completely debilitating; she could not even struggle because it hurt too much.

This one also had a solid plot which I spent some time preparing, making sure to include the kind of scenes that are usually missing because of time constraints - the bad guy breaking in and looking for the valuables he stashed before being sent to prison, and where he sets up the suspension torture to make the girl talk. It made the video quite long, but then again, it does contain a lot of material.

Rather than try to retrieve the raw data for this, which may still exist, I decided to clean it up using a Final Cut plugin called "Neat". You've probably noticed it credited on some of the re-worked videos. It removes a significant amount of the noise from the picture, often caused by insufficient lighting, and does a fantastic job. It does take hours to render and export though, so I only do it where the video really benefits from this treatment. I have got a lot better with lighting over the past year or two, now that I've found a system that actually works.

It may seem a simple matter to provide adequate lighting, but when filming action where the subject is moving from outside into a poorly-lit room (the garage, for example), and then into artificial light, it really messes with the camera's sensors. To set up each shot by manually setting the camera each time would take all day, so I've always shied away from it, at the cost of lighting issues. I do tend to move lights around with me more now, and it does add to the shoot time, but it's clearly worth it.

Another enhancement is the upscaling from 1280x720 pixels. It's much more satisfying to see the video at 1920x1080 pixels now. And to cap it all, I have released it at $1 less than the price of the original.

Please Let Me Go enhanced (MP4) - Jasmine St James
34 minutes 49 seconds - 1920x1080 pixels - MP4: 1,607.4 MB

Video upscaled and enhanced using "Neat" software.

A man has just been released from prison after serving five years for theft. He stole diamonds which he concealed behind drywall in his garage, and these remained undiscovered by the police. During his time inside, however, the house he rented was leased to someone else, so now he must return to it as a masked burglar to avoid the risk of being identified. He removes the drywall and reaches a hand into the cavity where the stones were hidden, only to find them gone! He concludes that the new tenant must have found them and lies in wait until he hears the sound of a car pulling up outside. Jasmine receives the shock of her life when she opens her garage door to be confronted by a masked man. He grabs her and takes her through to the basement where he hogties her with electrical wire, demanding to know what she has done with his diamonds. Jasmine claims not to know what he is talking about and pleads with him to let her go, but he doesn't believe her. To help loosen her tongue, he decides to suspend her from a beam, leaving her to hang there in extreme discomfort to jog her memory. Even as she suffers this ordeal, Jasmine still maintains that she knows nothing about any diamonds. Finally, the man lets her down, but her torture is not over yet. After she tries to escape, he zip ties Jasmine to a chair with her legs elevated and pulls the ties very tight, before stuffing a cloth in her mouth and gagging her with rope. He know the girl will have to break some time. But does she know where the stolen diamonds are or is she actually telling the truth?

You see guys, this is the difference between those who produce a 5 minute clip of a model squirming around in a motel room, and those who produce a 30+ minute episode with an actual storyline.
Also, I’d appreciate it if someone could explain the price differential between the 2 download sites.

If I am not mistaken, which is quite often, Clips4SAle has to grab its own take of the proceeds from sales. Therefore, videos will cost more on C4S to cover their "fee".

Hi Harty,

I base my prices on what seems fair (Verotel imposes a lower limit of $2.99, below which it is not worth their while to handle the transaction). Clips4Sale, on the other hand, has an algorithm that forces minimum prices based on video length. Any video 18 -30 minutes cannot be priced at less that $12.99; any video from 31 to about 40 minutes cannot be priced at less than $13.99; and so on in increments until the video is over an hour long. At this point, the minimum price is set at $16.99 (I think), and the producer is free to set any price above that, if he or she wishes.

Hi Harty,

I suppose the better question would be which is most advantageous to you as the producer.
$5 is a big difference, so it’s a no brainer for me as the consumer.
My questions would be.....
Do you personally receive the same margin from both?
Does the extra paid to C4S provide for services such as piracy protection?
Because as of now, their protection isn’t achieving very much.

My cut is roughly the same. C4S takes 40% of all sales.

The extra paid to C4S covers running a business. They have a server farm and a lot of employees, so the overheads are huge.

They do tackle piracy with a high success rate, but I don't expect to see much difference. As soon as violations are taken down, they go back up. Until the law catches up with the Internet, there are no real penalties for theft, short of a court case. That means months or years of expense and public exposure, followed by trivial recompense, if any. And how would you prosecute someone in, say, Russia or China?

I do occasionally use a piracy lawyer who does get stuff removed because he is very tenacious. Ultimately though, he runs up against the same legal limitations.

That’s reassuring because at least I know you’re not being gyped by tightwads like me!
And screw the pirates, they’ll eventually get theirs.

This is certainly one of the best. A really good story set-up, realised wonderfully well, and Jasmine is on top form as always.

As you know, I always enjoy hearing about how videos were made and BTS snippets, though I confess the wonders of sound, lighting, re-mastering, etc. go over my non-technical head.
